Executive Director, FAPAD Uganda
“We believe that lasting change begins with people. When communities are empowered with knowledge, skills, and opportunities, they are able to resolve conflicts peacefully, protect their natural resources, and build sustainable livelihoods”

Welcome to Facilitation for Peace and Development (FAPAD).

Since our establishment in 2004, FAPAD has remained committed to promoting peace, justice, and sustainable development among marginalized communities in Northern Uganda. Our work was born out of the urgent need to respond to the need to support communities affected by conflict, inequality, and marginalization in Northern Uganda. Over the years, we have grown into a community-focused organization dedicated to empowering individuals and communities to shape their own futures.

At FAPAD, we believe that lasting change begins with people. When communities are empowered with knowledge, skills, and opportunities, they are able to resolve conflicts peacefully, protect their natural resources, and build sustainable livelihoods. Our programs focus on sustainable livelihoods, social justice, and research and knowledge generation, with special attention to rural women, children, youth, and persons with disabilities.

We work closely with communities, local authorities, cultural and religious leaders, and development partners to strengthen systems and structures that support inclusive and resilient development. Our approach is rooted in participation, accountability, and respect for human dignity

As we move forward, FAPAD remains committed to fostering equitable, inclusive, and resilient communities where every person has the opportunity to live with dignity, enabling enviroment, and hope. We invite you to learn more about our work and to partner with us in advancing peace and sustainable development.

Thank you for your interest in FAPAD.

"Building a Legacy of Justice and Resilience"

Since 2004, Facilitation for Peace and Development (FAPAD) has been a voice for the marginalized in Northern Uganda. What began as a response to gross human rights violations has grown into a robust, indigenous NGO dedicated to the belief that local voices create local solutions.

Facilitation for Peace had ist first high-impact pilot project in Apac District, which addressed the systemic poverty caused by a lack of women’s land rights, we have learned that sustainable development only flourishes where justice is accessible. Today, supported by a network of 1,536 grassroots paralegals, we are proud to have launched our 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, focusing on a future that is Equitable, Inclusive, and Resilient.

Our 2024–2028 Strategic Focus

Our work is organized into three transformative pillars designed to uplift the Lango sub-region and our neighbouring communities in Acholi, Karamoja and elsewhere in Uganda.

1. Sustainable Livelihoods

We are empowering food-insecure households through Agroecology. By blending Participatory Action Research (PAR) with practical farming inputs, we ensure families have food, nutrition, and income security. We are equally committed to our youth, providing apprenticeship opportunities, financial resources, and market linkages to foster a new generation of agricultural entrepreneurs.

2. Social Justice & Human Rights

Justice remains the heartbeat of FAPAD. Our Legal Aid Desks and ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) services provide a lifeline for the indigent. Our current priorities include:

• Land Tenure Security: Protecting the land rights of marginalized communities through demarcation and registration.

• Climate Justice: Mobilizing action for natural resource conservation and strengthening community environment committees.

• SRHR for Children: Protecting the Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights of children through referral pathways, medical support, and psychosocial care.

• Accountability: Strengthening the capacity of citizens to monitor local government service delivery and participate in district planning.

3. Research & Innovation

FAPAD is establishing a Research Hub for Northern Uganda, specifically focusing on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). By connecting academia with grassroots practice, we ensure our interventions are fuelled by data and real-world impact.

Driven by Values, Strengthened by Partners;

Our mission is reinforced by our active membership in the National NGO Forum, Legal Aid Service Providers Network-(LASPNET), Uganda Child Rights Network UCRNN, Uganda Law Society, Law Council of Uganda, East African Law Society, Lango Civil Society Organization Networks (LACSON), and Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM)-Uganda.

In Solidarity,

The Programs Manager & Legal Officer

“Our commitment is to ensure that every programme decision reflects the voices, dignity and rights of the people of Lango and beyond.”

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend my deep appreciation to our partners, staff and community structures that continue to walk this journey with FAPAD. Over the past year we have witnessed communities recover, organise and speak with a stronger voice on issues that affect their lives.

As a Board, we remain focused on strong governance, accountability and strategic oversight so that the organisation continues to deliver impact in a complex, changing context.
