Promoting Non-Violent Transformation of Land Conflicts and Climate-Sensitive Wetland Use

Project Overview

The Peacebuilding Project is implemented by Facilitation for Peace and Development (FAPAD) with support from Agiamondo. It operates in Bar, Agali, and Itek Subcounties of Lira District, Northern Uganda. The project promotes non-violent transformation of land conflicts and climate-sensitive use of wetlands, helping communities resolve disputes while protecting natural ecosystems.

Specific Objectives

Strengthen Local Capacities

Build capacity of community structures and leaders to address land and natural resource conflicts through peaceful means.

Promote Constructive Dialogue

Provide an enabling space for communities and leaders to engage constructively in conflict prevention and response.

Key Activities

Awareness Raising

Community dialogues, road drives, radio talk shows, jingles, and sensitization on land and wetland policies.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

FAPAD mediates cases through trained Community Peace Promoters who voluntarily resolve conflicts locally.

Climate-Sensitive Livelihoods

Support 12 commercial beekeeping groups in wetlands as eco-friendly income sources reducing land pressure.

Policy and Governance

Engage sub-county and district leaders to enact wetland bylaws for sustainable utilization.

Coaching & Mentorship

Train and mentor change agents on land and wetland conflict resolution using translated mediation materials.
